Namibia’s Natural Wonders

Namibia gets its name from the vast and alluring Namib Desert, where the world’s highest and orangest sand dunes are to be found at Sossusvlei. Discard your shoes and climb 300 metres for a top of the world view of an endless dunescape.

In the northern Namib is the Skeleton Coast Park, a remote and untouched wilderness perfect for the traveller with a sense of adventure, to go where few others tread. A guided fly-in safari to this remote area may change your perspective on life forever.

Another great adventure is a hike through the Fish River Canyon – a rival in grandeur and size to USA’s Grand Canyon, and one of the greatest natural wonders of Africa.

Namibia’s Top Game Reserve

Etosha National Park is Namibia’s safari centrepiece, with masses of game grazing alongside an immense glistening salt pan. The dry, cracked pan fills with water during the rains, attracting thousands of pink flamingoes and other wading birds. Etosha has its own special atmosphere, unlike any other safari park.

Windhoek & Swakopmund

Namibia’s Capital City of Windhoek is small and friendly with a mixed cultural heritage, where colonial German influences mix with raw Africa. Watch people of every shade stroll along wide pavements and marvel at the variety of exquisite plaited hair
styles on elegantly dressed women, plus some unusual tribal costumes.

Swakopmund is Namibia’s only other major town and is where Windhoek residents and visitors retreat to for a cool coastal holiday. The chilly Atlantic provides Swakopmund with a cooling breeze and often a dense morning fog, which disperses with heat from the desert sun. This delightful town is also known as ‘Little Bavaria’ because of its quaint German architecture and many people still speak German, as well as Afrikaans and numerous tribal languages of Namibia. The palm-lined gardens and its proximity to the desert soon remind you that you are very far from Europe.
